Identidad Madidi and the educational units of La Paz
One of the objectives of the expedition was to generate greater environmental awareness in the students of the educational units, given the fundamental importance of education for the construction of a society that is more aware of its responsibility to care for the environment.
The activities focused on scientific talks aimed at high school students in the cities of La Paz and El Alto and urban populations and communities in municipalities linked to Madidi National Park, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and the Departmental Education Office of La Paz.
These talks were structured around three main themes: biodiversity and protected areas, conservation and development of sustainable livelihoods, and science as a tool for exploration and solutions. The presentation included photographs, maps, diagrams, video clips and videotaped testimonials, comparisons and examples, questions to learn about the students' perception of the importance of nature and environmental care.
Between 2015 and 2018, scientific dissemination activities reached a total of 296 educational units at the secondary level in La Paz and El Alto (48.3 % of the total number of educational units in both cities at this level): 66.5 % in La Paz and 45 % in El Alto, covering a total of 46,895 students (24,227 females and 22,668 males).
On the other hand, between 2015 and 2017, talks were held in 40 educational units in four municipalities (Apolo, San Buenaventura, Ixiamas and Pelechuco), representing 12.8% of the 312 educational units in the nine municipalities of northern La Paz linked to the protected areas of Madidi, Apolobamba and Pilón Lajas: Charazani, Curva, Pelechuco, Apolo, Guanay, Mapiri, Teoponte, San Buenaventura and Ixiamas. The activities were coordinated with Madidi's management and protection corps, education districts, municipal governments and social organizations.
