Madidi National Park and Natural Area of Integrated Management was created with the following objectives:
- Permanently protect pristine Amazonian and Yungas ecosystems, their extraordinary biodiversity and genetic resources, and species of conservation importance.
- Protect geomorphological formations and unique landscapes of the eastern Cordillera, sub-Andean highlands, piedmont forests and the Amazonian alluvial plain.
- Protect watersheds, especially the headwaters, considering the high rainfall that most of the area receives, and the topography characterized by steep slopes and extremely fragile soils.
- Protect and safeguard the cultural wealth of ancient colonial settlements and the area's archeological values.
- Promote the sustainable use of natural resources by the Indigenous Peoples that traditionally inhabit the area thereby improving their quality of life and access to the benefits derived from conservation and management of the area.
- Contribute to the safeguarding of the cultural heritage and the rescue of traditional techniques and systems of indigenous resource use.
- Promote the use and recovery of traditional natural resource use technologies and systems, as well as alternative ways to improve production and improve the quality of life of the local population.
- Promote productive activities in the integrated management natural area that are in line with the conservation and sustainable development objectives and that demonstrate that they are not harmful to the ecosystems and their functions.
- Provide ample opportunities for nature recreation, ecotourism, environmental interpretation and education.
- Provide opportunities for scientific research and monitoring of ecological processes.
